Vintage Radio Box

Hi y'all,
I love old tunes and get so much joy from listening to them. I saw the Opaline Fragrance box from Myrcella's Vanity Kit and it reminded me of an old radio. I knew I needed to explore my thoughts more about this and from someone's comment on my photo I am glad I did. It looks like I did a lot of fancy altering but I promise it is minimal. So put some Glen Miller on and lets get to creating!

I have converted the files I made to svg files and that took some doing as Silhouette doesn't make it easy, but perseverance pays off and I have the files for you. You will need to make the box bigger to make it the size I made it. I will list the sizes below. t
There is one you will need to adjust yourself it is the bottom of the box itself. So lets get to making some music.

Bring the base-top-bottom-turquoise onto your mat, ungroup and release compound path. Now click on cut settings so you can see the outlines of the box. Choose Scale window and un-check the box that says lock aspect. Then enter the width 10.398 and the height at 6.357. Use the line tool and draw a short line just above each score line. I turn on the cross hairs so I can make sure I am getting it straight. Click on each line and change it to a score line using the line style tool at the top of your page. Adjust the lines to either shorter or longer depending on what you need. You will want it to look like two extra score lines. Do this for the back of the radio as well and while your there delete the three cut out windows and add a 1 inch circle at the lower right side for the plug in lights if you have them. If you don't have these lights leave the circle off and use battery operated tea lights.

Bring the vents svg or studio file ( depending on which cutting format you needed) onto the front of your radio bottom box. Center them over the large cut out window below the two score lines you added.  Click on the body of bottom_front_box and holding down the shift key choose each window and the vents svg or studio file leaving the score lines un-chosen, chose the modify window and subtract. All the vents and the three windows in front should now look as they did  when you brought the file onto your mat. Draw a box around your bottom front panel and right click to group your score lines.  Group everything on your mat and cut out your base out of your desired cardstock. Save your cut outs for the top of the box as you will emboss and ink them later.

Bring your decorative_panels_pattern_1svg. onto your mat and ungroup. Move both of your squares off the side. Using the decortative_panel_radio  svg or studio file and one of the panels for the lid cut out of patterned paper. I cut the other panel for the lid and the strip that goes across the top using solid card stock. I embossed the panel across the top with cuttlebug musical notes and inked it with brilliant copper ink. I did the same to the center cut out of the lid and all the ones that are cut out on the back. Glue your solid lid frame to your solid accent panel then after you have embossed and inked all the cut outs from the back panel glue each one into place on the back.  Don't forget to cut the top_liners_turquoise for the lid construction. Then glue those onto the lid as Leo instructs in the video for the Opaline Box from Myrcella's Vanity Kit.

To make the bottom of the Radio glue the clear acetate onto the reverse side of your patterned panel. I used Stampin up Cardstock vellum and cut the vellum out of that and either using pigment ink, permanent markers or your printer make the vellum a soft yellow on one side only. Turn it over and adhere your red vinyl onto the vellum making sure there is room to glue the vellum to clear panel around the edges. (your vinyl should be sandwiched between the clear plastic and the vellum) Glue all of that to the inside of your box front. Now glue the box together. Ink and glue the outside frame to the front of your box.

Cut and glue the base together adding ink sides as well. Try not to add ink to the top of your base as it is not needed and makes it harder for the glue to stick to your box bottom. Center your box bottom onto the base and glue in place.
Make 21 -1inch circles and glue all but the last one together. The last one emboss and ink first then add it to your circle pile, this will be your knob. Glue to the front of your Radio using my photo as and example of where it should go.  The final touch was to add the orange rhinestone to the front as a light indicator.

If you have the plug in light insert the cord through the back and set the lights inside. If you have tea lights instead I used three of them to get the light to show. I ordered the one with the cord on amazon but didn't see it doesn't come with the adaptor till after it came. (roll eyes) I will be ordering the cord and waiting for it to come now. That is my Vintage Radio and I hope you like it. I would love to see photos of your versions. You can post them on my Facebook page Shara's Paper Creations or Dreaming Tree's page or Paper Crafting With Electronic Machines. Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my blog and Happy Craftin' y'all!
Blessings, Sharalyn

Smell the Flowers

Mornin' Y'all!
I got up very early today to finish my Easter Surprise for you. I know this looks a lot like the Easter Egg Cuties I made last year and that is because the bunny is the same. The rest of this creation is the tulip basket from Egg Hunt, 3D Flowers II, 3D Mums and Fall Flowers, and Pick a Pumpkin SVG Kit. The Bunny is made using Christmas Open House and Bunny Hop SVG Kit. I will list links at the bottom of this page. I love Mary's Designs as there is so much cuteness going on it is hard to keep from buying the whole store. Lets get on to "Smelling the Flowers".

Start with the snowman and cut and adhere it together using the sizes that will be listed at the bottom of this page. Leave the accent pieces off so you can glue the ears underneath the top accent pieces. You can decide what accent pieces you want to glue them under when you decide how you want them to look. Up, down, folded.. etc..

Make another hat without the brim to glue inside your tulip basket. I made mine to match my bunny but you could make yours to match the inside of your tulip or make it a color of the center of a tulip.  I left the handle of the tulip basket off as I liked that better, of course it is your choice your the designer. The hat for the top of the Bunny was cut to appear like the center of the upside-down flower on her head. You will notice I made my shorter in this photo but I found later that was not necessary.

I was thinking about daisies when I made this so I cut the flower white and the center Yellow. Exact colors I used will be listed below. I used the Gerber daisy and cut 6 petals from white card stock. Using Stamping up's Lucky Limeade Marker I used the brush side and lightly added stripes to the flower petals. Use the same marker and edge the flowers with green. Make the "hat" for the bunny out of yellow and glue the flower onto the top of the "hat". I used the large scalloped center from the Cedi's Mum and glued 5 centers together punch a hole in the last one and adding two thin Curly-Q glued together from Pick a Pumpkin SVG Kit, trim to your desired length.

Decide which side you want your bunny face on and glue the accents in place sliding and gluing your ears under the top accents. I added dash lines to the edges of the insides of the ears before I glued them into place. I used black enamel dots to make the eye and Ranger white accents to make the white portion of the eye. I also used the white accents to make the teeth. Draw your mouth into place first then add your teeth and nose.  I wanted my bunny to be rejoicing in spring so I glued her paws in an upright position. The feet were glued to the inside layer of the tulip box.  I glued a bow at the neck and a flower just under her ear on the right side. I used a yellow enamel dot for the center of that.

To cover the holes for the tulip box handle I used silk flowers I had in my stash and brads. I had decided after I had cut it with holes that I didn't like the handle on so that was my "fix" for it. Thinking about some tulips I have seen that have stripes I added the stripes with a  Rich Razzleberry Stamping Up Marker. The Bunny's accent pieces were inked in that same color. I also inked the edges of the Tulip box with a blue Copic Marker. When I glued the rest of the petals for the tulip on the outside of the box I glued them to the first score line then curved them with a dowel.
That is all I did to make this sweet little bunny and she is my Easter gift to you all, thank you so much for stopping by and Reading my blog. I hope you enjoy this little sweetie and if you make one I would love to see it. Thanks again, have a wonderful day and Happy Craftin' Y'all!
Blessings, Sharalyn

Honnor thy Father...

Morning y'all!
I wanted to share with you my version of the Irish Coffee Mug  . Now you can buy it as kit or as single items. I prefer to buy the whole kit as I never know when I am going to want other pieces of the kit later and it is more cost effective to buy it as a whole.
So many ideas went through my mind when I saw it. I know Father's day is not till June but I couldn't wait to share this wonderful mug. While I am at it, welcome to Diana Tam a new member of Dreaming Tree! Lets begin.

I started with the bottom_handles_panels and ungrouped and released compound path, to delete the shamrocks from the bottom of the panels. Make a compound path and regroup without moving anything if you can. If you should accidently move something click the undo button and the top (back arrow) and regroup.  You can either cut your panels now or you can wait. I went ahead and cut as I knew exactly which paper I wanted to use.

I cut the main_1_evergreen and main_2_evergreen out of Bazzill Admirl card stock. I put the body together and then inked the edges all over with copper brilliance ink, then went over the top of it with gold brilliance ink. I wanted an aged feel to this and either ink alone was not quite right. Hey ink manufacturers we would love to see a brass color!
You will need to follow Leo's video on how to put this together as it is not the way most of us seasoned SVG cuts people are used to. It is clever to say the least but defiantly wasn't what I was expecting. My suggestion is do not use Bazzill Admiral paper as it tends to be a bit stiff and difficult to work with, rather choose a paper that isn't quite as stiff. American Craft has a few that can be that way as well and while I love this color because it's a true navy, it is a pain and I know it. This made it difficult to get the handle together so save yourself some aggravation and use something a little less stiff. I inked the panels with Tim Holtz Vintages Photo ink and adhered those to the body.

A trip down the hill was necessary to get the right color charm I wanted for the front of the mug. I still ended up buying gold paint to sponge it on and then inking over the top with copper Brilliance ink, to give it the look I wanted.
I used some old dictionary papers I had received in a kit years ago for the center of the charm. I inked the piece with Tim Holtz Vintage papers and then stamped DAD in the center with Archivers Black ink. I used the 25 Round punch from epiphany crafts and the round 25 bubble cap to adhere to the dictionary paper. To adhere the paper to the charm I used some Ranger Glossy accents.  I had purchased a brass chain to go around the cup but didn't like it when I put it up to the cup so I changed it to a blue ribbon. After all our dads are blue ribbon material anyway right? Mine sure is!

The Accents that were to be gold for the top and bottom portion of the Mug were inked the same way with the copper and gold ink to tie in the whole feel of the mug. I filled the mug with recycled blue shredded paper and put the gift in a cellophane bag tied with the same blue ribbon.

There you have it my version of the Irish Coffee Mug done Father's Day style. I am waiting on some paper for another way to use this mug, but I wont spoil the whole surprise for you. More to come and my fingers are itching to get some more crafting done. I need to make some purchases from Mary, as usual she is coming up with some amazing stuff.
Thanks so much for stopping by and reading my blog. It is still early for most here in California so have another cup of coffee, have a wonderful day and happy Craftin' Y'all!
Blessing, Sharalyn

A Card by any other Name

Hey Y'all,
I hope your having a wonderful morning. Today I want to share my card from Dreaming Tree. I saw this collection of cards and just knew I wanted to make one for my bestie for her birthday. While the card I chose is a spring card, it is quite beautiful and I thought would be perfect for her. These cards are so pretty they would be lovely as a wedding card, get well or just thinking of you. So on to the card!

I started with a white base and found a lovely pinkpaislee paper called Oyster Bar from the Nantucket collection. I had been saving it for quite a while.  I cut the base out of white then using Versa Mark ink I stamped a background stamp from Stampin Up called Filigree. I have used it quite a bit and just love that background stamp. I used Hero Arts ultra fine clear emboss powder to emboss the front of the card.
White embossing powder would be a lovely option for a wedding as well.

I wanted to keep the same colors in my card as the pinkpaislee  paper so I chose American Craft butter for the yellow and Raspberry for the peach color. Thinking about the background I knew I wanted it to be a print and stay with the same soft feel so I used Echo Parks Jack and Jill collection. The paper said Chandeliers on the back but I used the paper that looked like wood to me. When I chose papers I lay them beside each other and think about texture and prints. I wanted  that for the inside of the card and the back outside as well. The opposite side of the pinkpaislee was a little loud for my girlfriend and I knew it would bother her. The Echo Park paper I chose would keep the soft feel of the card as well as add texture.

I cut the flower for the outside of the card using the raspberry and decided I liked it better in the middle of the flower for the inside. Using scraps of the pinkpaislee I cut the outside flower. I cut the butter for the center of the flowers and added tiny yellow dots to the stamens. Using my McGill flower shaping tools I shaped the flowers to cup up just a tad. The final touch was to add the large pearl embellishment to the center. I cut the leaves out of the butter as well, turned them over so I could used the non textured side and using that same background stamp I used on the card base I stamped it with Stampin Up Daffodil Delight. This was the same color I used to make the tiny dots on the stamens.

Using a portion of the pinkpaislee paper that had mostly lace I wrote Happy Birthday. I have a couple of good greeting stamps but can never find them when I am looking for them. I really need to get a good greeting stamp set. I will gladly accept advice on that if any would cares to share.

I used a Close to the Heart paper I had in my stash to make the envelope and white cardstock for the insert. This and another dear friend are always telling me no naked envelopes so I will add a stamp to the front of the envelope.

That is the card for my bestie and I do hope she doesn't see it before her birthday but she probably will. I don't usually post before I give the card or gift but I haven't posted in so long I felt I owed it to y'all.

I have been asked and accepted to Dreaming Tree's Design Team. It is a sweet thing to have your gift recognized in such a way. I thank Leo for asking me and all the wonderful ladies who inspired and taught me though their example. Mary Rudakas, Thienly Azim, Kristina Werner, Tamara Tripodi, Rose Cronin to name a few Thank you, with all my heart thank you. You sharing your wonderful designs and how you made them,  taught me how important it is to return the favor to others.

I will continue making and loving designs from Mary Rudakas of SVG cuts.  Thank you for your patience in my absence. We had quite the year last year.  Have a wonderful Day and Happy Crafting Y'all!
Blessings, Sharalyn
